Back in 2004, a small dealership opens in St. Cloud, Minnesota, specializing in trailers. We’re talking small cargo, medium-sized single-car, 3-4 car haulers, and enclosed trailers. While business is good for the Jordet family in its new enterprise, there is a prevailing sense that something is missing. That something could change for the better.
On a hot summer day, a customer comes into that humble trailers-only dealership looking to trade in a beautiful 1989 Honda CRX Hatchback. The Jordet family, with a deep-running love for cars and trucks, thinks, “What do we have to lose?” They accept the trade-in toward a single-car hauler, write the price of that CRX on the window in shoe marker, and sell it the same day.
From that fateful day, that trailers-only dealership grows to become St. Cloud Auto Sales. With 15 vehicles in South St. Cloud, all priced to sell below $3,000, the stage is set yet again for bigger things to come.
Flash forward to 2006, and St. Cloud Auto Sales is selling 100 vehicles a month and retailing vehicles on the lot at wholesale pricing. When you visit St. Cloud Auto Sales, you’ll have the run of a wide range of vehicles, including cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans. The dealership has even branched out into heavy-duty commercial equipment, selling on eBay.
Branching out means growth, and St. Cloud Auto Sales soon outgrows its home in South St. Cloud. By 2012, a second location opens in St. Joseph, housing all the cars, SUVs, and vans. This leaves nothing but trucks at the St. Cloud location. (Starting to sound familiar?)
Growth also means a need to expand on the dealership’s service department. As fate has it, a building just adjacent to St. Cloud Auto Sales goes on the market and is promptly scooped up by the Jordet family. This becomes the Custom Trucks Shop, a home base for pickup customization offering everything from fresh coats of custom paint to durable performance accessories to massive tires, rims, and lift kits. In other words, everything you’d need to get lifted, loaded, and jacked.
It’s a funny thing: Turns out, folks in Minnesota really, really like trucks. By 2013, both the St. Cloud and St. Joseph locations are stocked to the brim with pickup trucks. At either dealership, you can find full-size and heavy-duty trucks from the heavy hitters, like Ford, Chevrolet, and Ram. And better still, thanks to the Custom Trucks Shop in St. Cloud, the dealership becomes a destination for Minnesotans looking for personalized custom trucks with all the trimmings.
So what do you do when you sell trucks and trucks and trucks? You go that extra step and make sure everyone in St. Cloud knows that there’s once place they need to go for what they want. And thus, St. Cloud Auto Sale becomes Minnesota Truck Headquarters. Some 10 years on from opening a trailers-only dealership, the Jordet family has found its true calling.
Minnesota Truck Headquarters doesn’t stop growing. In March 2017, ground is broken on a new mega location on Highway 23 NE in St. Cloud. By August of that same year, the doors open wide to a new, incredible dealership that stocks over 400 trucks. All the while, the south St. Cloud location remains open, now stocking Pre-Auction Wholesale inventory.
The new Minnesota Truck Headquarters location is everything you could want in a dealership experience. You don’t just have a huge selection of trucks, including Granite Rock Edition Off-Road customizations. You also have 17 service bays, a massive play area to keep the kids content while you visit, and our very own Toy Box with everything from muscle cars to motorcycles.
And Minnesota Truck Headquarters ain’t done growing yet. In 2020, we opened our third location: the MTH Commercial lot in Sauk City. If you run a business, MTH Commercial houses more than 80 specialty commercial vehicles, including snow plows, dump trucks, and more. This location is also home to a state-of-the-art detailing facility and an incredible 360-degree photo booth studio.
The best is yet to come. In 2022, we opened Minnesota Truck Headquarters of Forest Lake — a new location in Forest Lake, MN, that expands our selection of custom trucks and gives drivers across Minnesota even more options. And we even ship to 48 states, making MTH the truck headquarters of America. Not bad for a dealership that only started out selling trailers some 20 years ago.
